College Football Career
Mike Wright attended the University of Cincinnati and played defensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bearcats. He saw most of his playing action in his junior and senior seasons (2003 & 2004). In his senior year he led the Cincinnati defensive line in tackles with 42 and also blocked a kick.
Undrafted out of college Wright was invited by the New England Patriots to compete for a roster spot at the Patriots 2005 training camp. His great performance in preseason and training camp earned him a spot on the New England roster and he ended up playing in 13 games as a backup defense tackle with the Patriots in his rookie season. In 2006 he played in all 16 of the Patriots regular season games and started 4 of them. On week 15 of the 2006 season in a game vs the Houston Texans, Wright recorded his first career NFL sack. He finished 2006 with 32 tackles and 1 sack. On March 21, 2007, Wright resigned with the Patriots to a contract extension.
