North Carolina is located in the southeastern region of the United States and on November 21st, 1789 became the twelfth state to enter into the union. North Carolina was once a member of the Confederate States of America. The capital of North Carolina is Raleigh and its largest city is Charlotte. The current governor of North Carolina is Mike Easley, a Democrat.
North Carolina is the birthplace of two American presidents, James Polk and Andrew Johnson, both of whom moved afterwards to the state of Tennessee.
