The New Revised Standard Version is an update of the Revised Standard Version that was released in 1989.

This translation improved some of the archaic language in the RSV, but also injected some gender-neutral language and changed the prophesy in Isaiah about Mary, the mother of Jesus, from "virgin" to "young woman."

This translation is owned by the liberal National Council of Churches.

Subsequently, in 2001, the English Standard Version was released to revert the foregoing liberal changes.
