Newcastle United F.C. is a British soccer team playing in the English Premier League. The current manager of Newcastle United is former player Alan Shearer [1], and they are sponsored by the nationalised bank Northern Rock.

History

Newcastle was founded in 1892 by the merger of Newcastle West End and Newcastle East End. The team currently plays at St James' Park in Newcastle upon Tyne. Their club colors are black and white stripes with black shorts. Newcastle United are nicknamed 'the Magpies', or, more simply, 'Toon' (the local pronunciation of 'town'); its fans are the 'Toon Army'.
