The Oath of Office is the phrase which must be recited by presidents-elect in the United States in order for them to ascend to the Office of the Presidency. This powerful phrase is required specifically by the Constitution of the United States (Article II Section 1) and reads
I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

The oath is customarily followed by the phrase "so help me God," and is usually recited with one hand on the Bible.
