Old Earth theories contrast with Young Earth Creationism by assuming that the age of the Earth is billions of years. Some other Americans accept the biblical literalist position that God created the Earth less than 10,000 years ago.

Many Americans are either Young Earth Creationists, or Old Earth Creationists, believing that God created the Earth billions of years ago - and the various forms of life over the last several hundred million years or evolutionists. Evolution advocates support the same time line but don't believe in supernatural intervention.

Evolutionists believe the age of the Earth is over 4.5 billion years old which is a common viewpoint for Old Earth Creationists as well, although it is also common for Old Earth Creationists to believe in much shorter times - but still longer than could be possible under Young Earth Creationism.
