Old maxim of Sherlock Holmes
The Old maxim of Sherlock Holmes expresses the principle the most famous fictional detective in English literature was using in his investigations and the detection of crime, i.e. when dealing with the forensic science:
"It is an old maxim of mine that when you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1892). Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Harper & brothers.
