Peter Yarrow was born on May 31, 1938, Noel Paul Stookey was born on December 30, 1937, and Mary Travers (November 9, 1936 – September 16, 2009).[1] In the early 60’s they formed the super folk group of the decade.[2]

Their first album in 1962, Peter, Paul & Mary was on the bestseller charts for three full years and gave them their first hit single, “Lemon Tree”, along with the top ten single “If I Had a Hammer”.

A year later “Puff The Magic Dragon” peaked at #2, as did “Blowin’ In The Wind”. “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” also landed in the top ten of the Hit Parade.

In 1967 “I Dig Rock And Roll Music” gave them another top ten hit, and in 1969 “Leaving On A Jet Plane” returned Peter, Paul & Mary to the top of the singles chart with a song written by John Denver. “Day is Done” also was a chart hit in the same year.

Peter, Paul and Mary was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999, and in 2006 a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
