Poison gas is poisonous gas used to destroy the enemy in war. It was first used in World War I.

Poison gas was considered uncivilized prior to the war, but soon the armies were willing to try anything that might end the stalemate of trench warfare. The use of poison gas began when the French first fired tear gas on the German troops. Soon afterwards the Germans fired shells on the French which held a chemical which induced violent fits of sneezing. The first use of Chlorine as poison gas was on April 22, 1915. The French thought that the yellow-green cloud was masking a German advance and stayed at their posts. The results were devastating. As soon as the gas was inhaled, it destroyed the respiratory organs and left the soldier to choke to death. The soldiers could be a mile away from each other and still kill with this fearsome weapon.
