Porsche is an automobile brand from Germany, started by Ferry Porsche, the son of automotive and military engineer Ferdinand Porsche. They are known for their sports cars like the Porsche 911. The company was founded in the late 1940s, producing a sports car called the 356. This model was produced in 1964 when it was replaced by the 911. Porsche uses a number of unusual design features, such as placing the engine in the rear of the car and using a horizontally opposed engine (as opposed to a conventional V-shape). Classic Porsches were air cooled and therefore did not have a radiator. Porsche also has a long history in automobile racing, and has won the prestigious Le Mans race more than any other marque of car. Porsche is affiliated with the VW-Audi Group and is headquartered near Stuttgart, Germany.
