Pricedown (font)
Pricedown is the name for the font used in the logo for The Price is Right. It is also used in box-art and official logos for Grand Theft Auto games, among other things. It has been used in the "Grand Theft Auto" header of box art continuously since Grand Theft Auto III in October 2001.
History
The font is based on the game show The Price is Right and was designed by typographer Ray Larabie, although it's inspiration came from "Pinto Flare" circa the late 1960s. During development of Grand Theft Auto III, the box art was originally to feature a different, grimy urban themed all caps font reading "GRAND THEFT AUTO 3" with the "3" being outlined in orange, with the rest of the header being white accompanied by black dirt stains. Artists and developers chose to utilize a different font, and Pricedown was the font of choice.
