Protestant ethic

The Protestant ethic, or Protestant work ethic, refers to the set of values associated with Anglo-Saxon Protestantism. It consists of hard work, personal freedom, competitive spirit and a profit motive to provide an incentive to achieve.

The Protestant ethic derives from the religious individualism of the Reformation. Modern capitalism is partly the product of the Protestant ethic.
