Proverb
From Conservapedia
A proverb is a type of expression that is true to experience in context. A proverb can be a part of a poem, a widespread anecdote, or just an oft-repeated statement.
For example, Many hands make light work is a proverb meaning that when a task is broken up, the individual, smaller tasks, are easier to manage. This is in opposition to the proverb too many cooks spoil the broth. This second proverb means that too many differing approaches can, counter-intuitively, slow or halt progress.
