R.E.M. is a popular alternative rock band from Athens, Georgia. They are credited with "mark[ing] the point when post-punk turned into alternative rock".[1] Best known for hit songs such as "The One I Love", "Stand", "Losing My Religion" and "Shiny Happy People", they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
