Retribution is a victim centered concept of justice for a sin or a crime.

Retribution was once a primary justification for criminal punishment. In the exclusion of morality from schools and intellectual discourse, retribution is generally not taught in law school as a justification for criminal punishment. It has been largely replaced by a utilitarian justification for criminal punishment, such as deterrence or rehabilitation.
