The Royal Black Preceptory or Royal Black Institution is a Protestant organisation of Northern Ireland. It was founded in 1797 and re-founded in 1846. Although separate from the Orange Order, only Orangemen are eligible for membership of the 'Royal Black'. Outside Ireland, it is particularly strong in Newfoundland. Jim Molyneaux, leader of the Ulster Unionist Party 1979-195, was Sovereign Grand Master of the RBP from 1971 to 1995.
