Running mate

A running mate is a person who, in a political campaign, enters the ticket of a "senior runner" to assist or round out the chances of that ticket.
Examples:
- Walter Mondale as Vice-Presidential running mate to Jimmy Carter
- Jusuf Kalla as vice-presidential candidate beside Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for the 2004 Indonesian Presidential election
- John Edwards was running mate to John Kerry for the 2004 US Presidential election
