The Scottish Premier League known as Clydesdale Bank Premier League for reasons of sponsorship is the top tier professional Football league in Scotland.

Currently the SPL is ranked tenth in the UEFA rankings for European leagues in total since the leagues creation in 1998 18 different teams have competed in the league although only two clubs have won the league being the Old Firm of Celtic FC (6 titles) and Rangers FC (4 titles).

Prior to 1998 the top tier of Scottish football was the Premier League as part of the Scottish Football League
