Sense and Sensibility is an early 19th century novel by Jane Austen. Like her better known Pride and Prejudice, it concerns the fortunes of young women raised on an entailed estate in England seeking good prospects for marriage.

In Emma Thompson's 1995 movie version, when the Dashwoods are dispossessed of their estate, Elinor meets the new owner's gracious and sympathetic son (Hugh Grant). Rather than suffer Miss Margaret to be moved to another room to accommodate his visit, he takes a room overlooking the stables. When Margaret hides from the company, it is he who locates her under a table in the library.
