The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were a listing of the most impressive public works in the world, compiled by the Greek writer Antipater in the second century BC. All of these have been severely damaged or destroyed, except for the Great Pyramid.
The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were:
- The Great Pyramid of Giza - 2650 BC, tomb of Egyptian pharoah Khufu.
- The Hanging Gardens of Babylon - 6th century BC
- The Statue of Zeus at Olympia - 450 BC, created by the Greek sculptor Pheidias
- The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus - 550 BC
- The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus - 350 BC, tomb of King Mausollos of Caria
- The Colossus of Rhodes - 282 BC
- The Lighthouse of Alexandria - 3rd century BC
