Siouxsie and the Banshees were a punk band formed in late 1976 by members of the Bromley Contingent. Principal members of the group were vocalist Siouxsie Sioux, bassist Steve Severin and guitarist Marco Pirroni. Other notable band members included Sid Vicious and John McGeoch.

Unlike most punk bands, they proved very durable, recording over a dozen albums in a two decade career, and having a number of hits, notably Hong Kong Garden, Happy House and Cities in Dust. From distinctly crude beginnings, they developed a much more sophisticated sound, becoming first psychedelic and ultimately gothic in their sound, before disbanding in 1996.
