Ska is a genre of music that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s prominently featuring large horn sections and a syncopated back-beat. Ska was adopted by British punk rockers and skinheads in the late 1970s ("second wave ska" or "2 Tone"). Bands, which were often bi-racial, included Madness, The Selector and The Specials. The 1990's brought ska by American punk rock-ska hybrid acts ("third wave ska") such as Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish. A Christian ska movement sometimes characterized as a "fourth wave" (but close in musical, if not lyrical, style to the third) emerged in the late 1990s. Bands of this movement include the Supertones and the Insyderz.
