The small intestine is an organ that is part of the digestive system. This is the section of the digestive system where most of the absorption of nutrients takes place. There are three parts of the small intestine, the duodenum, the jejunum and the ileum. The duodenum is the first ten inches of the small intestine and is where the common bile duct connects to the small intestine.
