Snowdonia is a mountainous region of North Wales in the United Kingdom. It is named after its highest mountain (and the highest mountain in Wales), Mount Snowdon.

Like much of Wales, its former economy was based around the mining industry. After the mining decayed following the failure of the politically-motivated miners strike much hardship was felt. Recently however manufacturing has received a boost from several high-profile international projects, most notably the watertight roof sections for the viewing cars of the Eurostar and the wings for the new Airbus A380.
