St. John of God (1495-1550) was a Portugese saint. As a young man he was a solider, but turned back to God at age 40 when he saw a vision of the infant Jesus who bid him go to Granada, where he devoted himself to the sick and the poor under John of Avila. He founded the Brothers Hospitallers' Order, which is still active today.[1]

John was canonized in 1690.
