Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (SEP) combines an online encyclopedia of philosophy with peer reviewed publication of original papers in philosophy. It is freely accessible to internet users.
The encyclopedia is maintained by Stanford University. Every entry is written and maintained by an expert in the particular field - including professors from many academic institutions worldwide.
Authors contributing to the encyclopedia grant Stanford University permission to publish the articles. However, they retain the copyright to those articles.
The SEP has approximately 1,500 entries. The encyclopedia uses the traditional academic methodology of major encyclopedias and academic journals to insure quality through specialist authors chosen by an editor or an editorial committee which demonstrates competence in the field covered by the encyclopedia. In addition, it uses a peer review process.
