Steve Irwin (February 22, 1962 to September 4, 2006) is famous for his work with animals and for his show on the Discovery Channel. He and his parents originated the Australia Zoo in 1970 (then the Beerwah Reptile Park) on four original acres. It is located about one hour north of Brisbane. The zoo is now owned by Irwin's wife, Terri.[1]

In 2006, Steve Irwin was killed while filming a documentary when he was stung in the chest by a stingray barb[2].
