"διεδίδετο δὲ ἑκάστῳ καθότι ἄν τις χρείαν εἶχεν" The Greek explicitly states that the distribution was made just as anyone had need. For me, that is a more thoughtful process than distributing to the needy: while the parable of the parable of the workers in the vineyard shows that the heavenly reward is the same for anyone, earthly matters are treated differently.
