Talk:Assumption of Mary
From Conservapedia
The Catholic belief is that Mary was assumed into heaven body and soul. Only one person ascended into heaven, by his own power, and that was Jesus. Also, Catholics recognizes the assumptions of Enoch and Elijah.--Sille714 14:09, 20 May 2009 (EDT)
- As for Mary, the Catholic Church holds her in a special light. As the mother of Jesus, as the chosen one of a virgin birth, she is the new Eve and Jesus is the new Adam. Catholics don't worship her but love her as that special person of God. One person who ascended to Heaven is not Catholic teaching.--Jpatt 14:17, 20 May 2009 (EDT)
- It is the wording that is the issue here. Saying that Mary ascended into heaven implies that she did so on her on accord, when she was assumed into heaven by the power of God. That is the reason why Catholics celebrate the Assumption of Mary and the Ascension of Jesus.--Sille714 11:57, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
- I just made some wording changes for the better. AddisonDM 12:05, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
