Is it only atheists that use these tools or do other people use them as well? JackFinney 10:40, 20 November 2008 (EST)

A combination of these is how pretty much every religion gets their start. Where would Christianity be without intimidating people (threat of hell), denying Pagan religions, "saving" (killing) the souls of people who wouldn't convert, etc. Mikek 10:46, 20 November 2008 (EST)

Oh, hee hee. I thought this was Artistic tools! Oops! MarieB 11:42, 20 November 2008 (EST)

I added the Uncited tag, there should be some citation to support these claims , Commandments 1 and 2 seem to apply Markr 12:15, 20 November 2008 (EST)

Should this list be alphabetized, or is it in order of priority or commonness of usage? Human 17:36, 20 November 2008 (EST)

GRAMMAR - can someone who is good with grammar confirm the title. I cringe a bit everytime I read it since it seems to be saying the tools are athiests, which really isn't an issue Markr 12:29, 21 November 2008 (EST)

Grammar is spelled with 2 "a"s. -DrSandstone 14:10, 21 November 2008 (EST)

Promotion of suicide

I think this should be removed again, but since the editor who added it has requested this be discussed first, & I have sometimes made similar requests to this myself, I will honour that.

The cited news item does not state or even imply that atheists promote suicide. It shows a father attributing his son's suicide to distress caused by atheist literature & his loss of faith. This is not equivalent to a promotion of suicide. I also agree with JessaT's point (in the edit summary) about not using these kinds of tragedy for political capital. Sideways 14:16, 21 November 2008 (EST)

Atheists promote faithlessness which leads to suicide on a regular basis, thus they are promoting suicide. Besides, CP is about the truth, not about political capital. The truth shall set you free! --ChrisC 16:09, 21 November 2008 (EST)

That theme is already covered in other places, such as atheism and suicide, & this citation could probably be added there. But adding it to this list suggests that atheists use promotion of suicide as a means to promote or defend atheism, which is like putting the cart before the horse. Sideways 18:01, 21 November 2008 (EST)
I think Sideways is right. Plugging in "the promotion of suicide" into the statement at the top of the article, you get "Atheists will try to promote suicide in arguments or attempts to defend their atheism." That doesn't really make much sense. You might say it's something atheists do, but I think you'd have a hard time saying they do it to defend their atheism. LiamG 18:06, 21 November 2008 (EST)
