This is meant to guard against the experimenter bias and the placebo effect. Both of these phenomenon are known to exist and unless controlled for can result in erroneous faulty data that can negate the educational value of an experiment. This is in stark contrast to organized religion that seeks to understand phenomenon through highly ambiguous and subjective writings of whose origins are unknown and whose messages are often contradictory. In effect religion is highly subjective offering no objective methods of obtaining usable data and thus yields no educational value.
