Talk:Essay:Darwin's The Origin of Species: Supplanting William Paley's Notion of Creator
- So this is the fabled essay you [Phy] were referring to. Sorry to say, but tldr. JonG 17:54, 3 May 2010 (EDT)
- Nice work. And you've helped me identify the major objection to Intelligent Design. It seems that rather than pointing any scientific mistakes in the theory, ID opponents object to the usefulness of ID. It bolsters Paley's theological argument: "The marks of design are too strong to be gotten over. Design must have had a designer. That designer must have been a person. That person is GOD."
- ID advocates say that they can isolate the scientific part of Paley's argument and study it on its own merits. The only conclusion design theorists draw from ID is that it disproves the notion of natural selection alone producing all new species.
