It would be interesting to follow up some of the stories with police or legal comments. All of us are interested in the use of force laws involved. For example, in which jurisdictions may a person defend himself or another by shooting an assailant or robber? --Ed Poor Talk 08:04, 22 April 2008 (EDT)

Generally speaking, the use of deadly force is permissible anytime and anywhere someone's life is in danger. Property, not so much. However, some states are beginning to allow a person to defend their property as well as their life (Florida and Texas come to mind; there may be others). --RossC 08:57, 22 April 2008 (EDT)
