Jesse Helms was the most evil Senator of this time. He changed from Democrat to Republican. He liked to kill people. He murdered people. He was racist, homophobic and basically homocidal.

Thats why he should have the best article at conservapedia!

Thanks!

Thanks to the people who have started helping. I intend this as a starter stub, Helms's career was very long and complex so its hard to get it all. So keep it coming. Richard 02:11, 25 March 2007 (EDT)

Helms Party Switch

Helms didn't switch his party due to George McGovern. He became a Republican in 1970. McGovern didn't run for President until 1972.--Epicurius 14:38, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

Also, his mother's name was Ethel Mae. I'm also not entirely sure that it was particularly courageous to switch parties in 1970. Here's an article from 1970 from Time Magazine (specificially about Harry Byrd) talking about speculation that he'll become a Republican, and also pointing out other conservative southern Democrats who might switch, like John Stennis, Bill Archer, and Lester Maddox. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,942209,00.html --Epicurius 14:49, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

Regarding Galifianakis playing "the race card", I don't entirely know what that means. He did joke about how long his name was, but if anyone played the race card, it was Helms, with his slogan "Jesse Helms: He's One of Us", which carried the implication that Galifianakis wasn't.

Kindly read the citation in the article (pasted below):

"The presidential election offered excellent coattails to ride on. Helms allied himself with Republican candidate Richard M. Nixon, linking Galifianakis with the highly unpopular McGovern. Galifianakis saw a much different, and worse, kind of tarring at work. He accused the Helms campaign of using his Greek American ethnicity to imply that he was not a loyal U.S. citizen."

I shortened this to "race card" where a candidate says "oh you're just saying that because I'm XXXX-American" (nearly always with a hyphen). I think it was courageous to switch...there are people here who will still never forgive the Republican party for waging war against the south. Richard 15:01, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

I feel the banhammer coming down....

The source for the reversion I just made says nothing of the kind [1], yet the blatant deceitful liberal lie that was in this article for months is published verbatim at other liberal scum sucking sites. Warning: Before anyone, anyone attempts to mouth lies of this nature anywhere in this encyclopedia again, you had better check, recheck, and triple recheck the source and accuracy of your information. No ifs, ands, or buts, the banhammer will be permanant in instances like this. Rob Smith 20:51, 25 September 2007 (EDT)

Banned from CP? Oh, what a cruel end! BrumbleB 21:01, 25 September 2007 (EDT)

Yeah, no one noticed the typos that had been here just as long (you'd think people on this site, at least, could spell 'Reagan'). Maestro 22:34, 25 September 2007 (EDT)
