If there were no mimimum wage law or unions in the United States, employers would be paying laborers what they are paid in Indonesia.Panini 18:36, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
That's not actually true. American hiring firms are willing to pay higher wages (shifting demand curve to the right), and American laborers are less willing to work at wages that Indonesians pay (shifting supply curve to the left). If you graph this, this creates an upward shift in wages.--Pmcburn1 10:59, 10 January 2010 (EST)
I added a bit just explaining exactly HOW the minimum wage can cause structural unemployment. I could do some searching and find an image if you would like.
- Your additional explanation is good, and visitors will learn from it. Thanks.--Andy Schlafly 10:10, 10 January 2010 (EST)

The crazies will own it. See you again when Obama's president.
Minimum wage update
The minimum wage went up to $6.55, and I'm not sure how you conservatives would like to word it, so I didn't edit anything.
The correlation between minimum wage increase and increase in unemployment is bunk, in Canada employment in county is the lowest in the province for years, and minimum wage has been going up bi yearly for the last 3 years by rather large increments, and I believe the same trends exist in the rest of the country, with the caveat for industrial jobs , ie' ford factories, which are more suffering from poor management and investment than government interference ( I would say).--JeffD 14:03, 26 December 2009 (EST)
