Question

I know policy says no copying from Wikipedia but there is a well written article located at the exact same name as this that I would like to copy from there. And there is little I can do to make it any better. So with the communities permission I would like to copy and paste it.--FellowChristian16 18:39, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

As far as I understand, it's not our policy which restricts copying from Wikipedia as much as Wikipedia's policy and copyright law. You can copy only pages that you made (without contributions from others), but once someone else edits it, it is no longer allowed to be copied. HelpJazz 20:27, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
HelpJazz is correct, except that it's not really Wikipedia's fault. Wikipedia allows copying to places that have a compatible licence. However, Conservapedia's licence is not compatible with Wikipedia's. That may not be the only reason for the policy of no copying from Wikipedia, but that reason alone is enough to prevent what you ask. Philip J. Rayment 21:36, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
So, their stuff says it's under a free license though I could be wrong since I've never really took the time to read it.--FellowChristian16 22:50, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
As I said, their licence (freely) allows copying to other places, but only places that have a compatible licence. Conservapedia doesn't fit that criterion. Philip J. Rayment 06:43, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
So What must I do to the article on Wikipedia to get it on here and not violate their copyright?--FellowChristian16 15:40, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
There's not really anything you can do. You will need to write your own article from scratch. You can use the references in the Wikipedia article as sources of information for your own article. I guess that there is one other possibility: If the Wikipedia article was primarily written by one person, you could get that person's permission to copy his contributions only to Conservapedia. And if you do that, it's probably best that that author put a note on his user page on Wikipedia that he has given that permission. 17:28, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
Something else to consider, is that this encyclopedia prefers concise articles, so perhaps paraphrasing the Wikipedia entry would be a better match for this encyclopedia anyway. -DrSandstone 18:01, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

Our rules do not allow copying from Wikipedia unless you wrote the entry there. Wikipedia has an overly burdensome license and 99% of its material is biased, verbose or unacceptable anyway. Godspeed.--Aschlafly 20:42, 22 March 2008 (EDT)

I understand that which is why I asked here first, and NONE of their wrestling articles are biased.--   FellowChristian16  00:49, 29 March 2008 (EDT)
