Talk:Republican National Convention
No one is banned for speaking for ideological reasons?
Well, they don't let liberals speak... I'm not sure this is quite accurate. DanH 23:43, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
addendum: it's not even a bad thing. I was kind of upset when they had Arnold Schwarzenegger speak in 2004. DanH 23:46, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
While the convention was very important, as a Floridian with family in the Tampa area, the fact the first day events were postponed didn't surprise me, nor did it upset me. Tampa is not an easy city to evacuate should a storm head in its direction (I know, I've been caught in one.) The interstates come to a complete standstill, and bridges get closed much earlier than people expect. Official vehicles are ordered off the roads once winds reach 45 mph, and emergencies are only dealt with after the winds die down. Because Scott declared a state of emergency, "borrowed" law enforcement that were in Tampa/Hillsborough County returned home, leaving less protection in the Tampa Bay area. Tropical Storm Debby just flooded the downtown area in June 2012, and because the land is basically flat, the waters don't recede quickly. Out-of-town people might not be as concerned about the logistics involved, but the situation was handled in an orderly, timely manner. I'm quite proud of how our local/state officials dealt with things. We/they have been through many of these storms. SharonW 21:50, 1 September 2012 (EDT)
