I really think that this article is too polemic. Thoughts? MountainDew 01:17, 11 March 2007 (EST)

I believe there are many things to discuss about San Francisco besides the gay population. Sounds like someone is using the city as another way of uncovering "gayness" in America. -Gasmonkey

I agree with Gasmonkey. As a San Francisco resident, I really dislike San Francisco being slammed as this moral "Babylon". Dallas' gay population is just as big, and New York has far more shady areas than San Fran does. SF is a great city with a wonderful history, but some people can't see past one issue.-Slider40337

OK, I added some discussion on the 2011 Walk for Life as a start. Michael4 23:05, 29 January 2011 (EST)

San Francisco vs Sillicon Valley

San Francisco is not the high tech capital of the world, nor even the SF Bay area. There are a few high tech companies in SF such as Lucas Arts, but when you are thinking computers and technology you are more likely thinking Apple (Cupertino), Sun (Menlo Park), Cisco (Sunnyvale), HP (Palo Alto), Netscape (Mountain View), SGI (Mountain View) or similar. Don't confuse Silicon Valley with the individual cities. --Mtur 21:30, 19 March 2007 (EDT)

That's right. I deleted the sentence about hi-tech and software growth. Many other Calif cities are better known for those things. RSchlafly 22:32, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

Keep in mind that anything down to San Jose is considered the Bay Area...including all those cities you mentioned (Cupertino, Menlo Park, etc.)-Slider40337

"Widely considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world." Now, I've been to SF and thought it was a truly great town, but "among the most beautiful?" Maybe the most beautiful in America.

I give you: Durham, York, Oxford, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Bath, Paris, Bruges,Venice, Dresden, Florence, Siena, Vienna, Budapest, Prague - and that's only Europe.

There are some nice Victorian town houses in SF, certainly. That doesn't make it one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

It is, however, a GREAT city, mainly because people there are so tolerant.

History

San Francisco has an incredibly rich history that is barely mentioned. I'm going to try and add a ton to this section over the next few days, but I thought I'd post here for anybody who might also like to contribute. Some good sources: [1][2][3]. That's just a few I'm looking at. Anyways, expect this section to expand soon. JacobB 23:19, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
