Prequel/Sequel

Note that "The Hobbit" is not a prequel to "The Lord of the Rings". The Hobbit was written in 1937, and LOTR was written from 1939 through 1949. In order to be a prequel, The Hobbit would have had to be written after LOTR. Brewer13210 18:54, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

I think that one can't say that Lord of the Rings is a "sequel" to the hobbit. The Lord of the Rings is much thicker in style, writing and information. --User:Additioner 14:40, 25 April 2007

I think the publisher described it as an "enchanting prelude". --Ed Poor Talk 12:26, 26 November 2008 (EST)

Book Cover

I've tried to add the Cover as an Image, but it looks huge and I don't know how to right align it - any help--Commandment9 19:16, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

Just add the code |thumb to the image tag. --Ed Poor 19:17, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

Thanks I 'll try to remember that if I add images again. What you have now is what In was aiming for.

Tolkien was my childhood. EternalCritic 12:06, 12 November 2008 (EST)
Languages are my passion. I've been told to read Tolkien and works about his languages, as he was one of the first & best linguists... I think i want do follow linguistics in graduate study, so I'm more than sure I'll get to share your love of him. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JeanJacques (talk)
Tolkien was a Philologist, and language truly was his passion, both in understanding and making up.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by EternalCritic (talk)
Usage explanation: Well, I often use the alternate/true names, which exist as redirects, to link to the articles. One reason is that you don't have to type the whole "X (Middle-earth)": Like the Khazâd example above, or "Quendi" for "Elves (Middle-earth)". Its just faster and more elegant. And they are valid redirects, as opposed to misspelled ones. ~ Tolkiendil 15:37, 12 November 2008 (EST)

Keep it accessible to junior high and high school kids. You can work in the "real" words, but don't make it so kids can't understand the articles. --Ed Poor Talk 12:28, 26 November 2008 (EST)
