Talk:The Legend of Zelda

I haven't played some of the more recent games, but I want to vet this statement:

In most games Link has to collect the pieces of the triforce of courage, but in the first game you have to collect Zelda's triforce of wisdom.

True or not?

  • The Legend of Zelda: You collect pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom, and get the Triforce of Power at the end.
  • Link's Adventure: You find the Triforce of Courage.
  • Two CD-i games: I don't know.
  • A Link to the Past: You get the whole Triforce.
  • Link's Awakening: No Triforce.
  • Ocarina of Time: You automatically get the Triforce of Courage. (And it's useless as always.)
  • Majora's Mask: No Triforce.
  • Wind Waker, Minnish Cap, etc: I don't know.

I think I'm going to rewrite that part.--All Fish Welcome 03:39, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

Don't bother. Can you compare and contrast the Triforce to the thing Voldemort split his essence into, in Harry Potter?
Or try writing about the attractions of video games in general. What can you tell us about role playing, for example? --Ed Poor 05:57, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

I like it how it was and I want to keep it that way! So I changed it.--Jack7903 17:04, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Paganism

I had an edit reverted, I'm not going to engage in a revert war since it looks like you guys are pretty flinchy with the ban button, but the main theme of the Zelda series is the triforce, which are made from the three pagan gods of love, courage, and power. There is even a in depth, 10 minute creation story in Ocarina of Time.--SarahPa 14:37, 15 October 2008 (EDT)

It was me who reverted it, and I don't have any powers or anything. The Triforce is made of the "essences" of some sort of goddesses (though it's really not harped on in most of the series), but your edit talked about pagan rituals. Maybe there's pagan themes, but I don't see how there are any pagan rituals. Also, it said it was "known for" this rituals. That's really not the case. LiamG 14:47, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
I guess my wording could have been better, but if you ask a gamer "what game series is known to have the triforce?" chances are they will say Zelda. They also call on the gods at the end of Zelda 64 to punish Ganondorf in a ritual. Same with twilight princess.--SarahPa 15:07, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
The Triforce may be something that the Zelda series is "known for," but pagan rituals are not. Maybe you could argue that the sages perform a spell or something at the end of Ocarina of Time, but they aren't quite gods and it isn't a ritual. Still, ask people what the Zelda series is "known for" and people might say any of the recurring characters, the Triforce, the Master Sword, Hyrule, etc. You could say it has pagan elements, but even saying it has pagan themes is a bit of a stretch.
