The potato incident was common knowledge onboard USS O'Bannon DD-987, which was my last command. The plaque that is pictured on the Wikipedia page was installed on my ship, on the quarterdeck, alongside a brass engraving of the Presidential Unit Citation. And here you are, condemming me for a cut and paste job from Wikipedia, when the author of the Wikipedia article copied it from MY source: the Naval Historical Center.
