Tamils are people of southern India and northern Sri Lanka speaking the language of Tamil.

The Tamil Tigers (the LTTE or Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), a Tamil terrorist group, has been engaged in a violent secession movement against the Sri Lankan government since the 1970s. Amongst other methods of violence, they have used suicide bombings, most notably in the murder of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
