Tequila is an alcohol made from the agave taken from a cactus. It is a cactus that takes between twelve and thirteen years to mature and it is dependent on bats for pollination. Tequila is the national drink of Mexico. In the 1970s, tequila became extremely popular. Tequila is typically enjoyed with lime and salt or in a mixed drink such as a Pina Colada or Margarita.
The city of Tequila, in the Mexican State of Jalisco, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
