The Return of the King is a film made by Peter Jackson adapting the last book in J.R.R. Tolkien's classic trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. The film made significant omissions, such as the omission of the battle in the shire (which was alluded to in the first film through Galadriel's mirror) and death of Saruman (Saruman's death is shown in the extended edition, though it happens at Isengard instead of the Shire.) The film won eleven Oscars for Best Art Direction/Set Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Makeup, Best Music/Original Score, Best Music/Original Song, Best Picture, Best Sound Mixing, Best Visual Effects and Best Writing/Adapted Screenplay. The film remains one of the joint-record holders for Academy Awards, along with Ben-Hur and Titanic.
