The Stranglers are an English punk band. Formed in 1974 as a pub-rock band in Guildford, they adapted their style to align with the host of new punk and new wave bands of the late 1970s, leading to them opening for The Ramones during their first British tour.

Band members were Hugh Cornwell (vocals), Jean-Jaques Burnel (bass), Dave Greenfield (keyboards), and Jet Black (drums). Their prominent keyboards and bass gave the Stranglers a distinctive sound compared to many of the more traditionally-structured, guitar-led groups of the period. The high-speed confrontational nature of their early music mellowed somewhat with time to a dark but melodic sound.

Among the band's most well known songs are "No More Heroes", "Peaches" and "Golden Brown".
