Tunguska event

The Tunguska event refers to an explosion which took place in a remote area of Siberia near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River on the morning of June 30, 1908, and possibly involving an air burst of a meteor or comet. Estimated to have contained the equivalent of between 5 and 15 megatons of TNT, the explosion flattened over 500,000 acres of forest and set off seismographs throughout Eurasia.
