Encyclical to Conservative, Part 2

Conservative, this will be my second encyclical to you this week. You may ask why I take my time to write these; It is because I actually do care about the course that Conservapedia takes, and am deeply troubled by some of the activities that have been going on recently. So I will take this time to outline some new concerns and restate previous ones.

  • Your lack of willingness to engage in conversation continues to be one of the main hindrances to the site. Too many editors (including myself) are worried about editing anything, because we are sure that you will revert it without so much as a sentence or two as to why. The why factor matters a lot more than you seem to think it does, in fact, the why factor is the backbone of the entire Wiki architecture. The gravy train may be nice and dandy to be atop, but when the train crashes, it will make a greasy, oily, gravy-y mess.
  • Changing the subject. There are so many instances when somebody asks a question, and you dodge the actual question by either choosing to respond to a tiny side note in the question, or completely changing the subject. It leads to off-topic conversations which do nothing for the site.
  • Scare tactics. I oftentimes see you say “this is a conservative encyclopedia” or “we aren’t a Wikipedia clone”. Both of those are true, but neither of them justify or defend many of your edits. No matter how conservative we are, we are still an encyclopedia, not a propogandic mirror of AiG. Censoring legitimate information about evolution is not appropriate, no matter how much you don’t like it. And by the way, “evolution” in the sense it is most commonly used is a scientific fact. The only thing that isn’t is modern evolutionary synthesis. And please cease saying “somebody wishes to censor the evidence against evolution”, because nobody has ever suggested censoring the anti-evolution “evidence” with any semblance ofseriousness. For the record, I do not think that AiG should be referenced on this site in many of the places it is. I’m really tempted to bring to light the hypocrisy of the AiG link by citing Talk.Origins and AiC (Answers in Creation), or even NAiG. I haven’t done this yet because I don’t think it’s the best road to take, as diplomacy (what I am doing now) will ultimately triumph.
  • Abuse of powers. This is the touchiest one, I am sure, but it needs to be addressed. Since day one, you have locked articles to conform to your ideology, blocked users for ideological disputes (after they attempt to communicate with you, might I add), and reverted things without the slightest consideration of the evidence. Not only is this ridiculously antisocial, it is intellectually dishonest. For example, the Theory of evolution article implies that there is some sort of dispute about the legitimacy of evolution within the biologist community; this isn’t the case. There is virtually no dispute at all, ask any biologist.
  • The locking of your talk page is unacceptable and non-defendable. I really think you are confusing your user page with your user talk page; your user page is available for anything you want to put on there, like much of the stuff on your user talk page right now; You have posted many messages to yourself, but most of those should actually be placed on your user page. Your user talk page is a place for others to contact you, and locking it gives the completely wrong impression. I know that you’re confused about namespaces, and though you may not like my ideological views, I am pretty good with Wiki software and tech; I would be glad to help you figure out namespaces and other Wiki tech stuff.

I hope you don’t miss the point of this post (like you did the last one), and actually think about some of the things I’ve outlined. I would bet you $5 that many, many editors would endorse this opinion about things. I think I speak for everyone when I say, things need to change.
