The gastrointestinal tract, digestive tract, or simply the GI tract, is a set of organs in most multicellular animals responsible for digesting food and extracting nutrients.
Human GI tract
In human adults, the complete digestive tract is approximately 20 feet, or 6.5 meters, long in total.
The list of digestive organs, in order, are:
- Mouth
- Pharynx
- Esophagus
- Stomach
- Through the duodenum into the small intestine
- Large intestine
- Rectum
- Anus
