Please sign your talk-page comments. It is recommended that you use four tildes (~~~~), which will be converted to your username and the time and date (see mine at the end of this paragraph). One of the buttons on the editing toolbar can do this for you. Philip J. Rayment 10:35, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

Thank you!

For you and Fox pointing out the mistake on the main page. You are catching lots of mistakes, and we appreciate that! --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 08:58, 25 May 2007 (EDT)

I have a reputation for these things. [Hangs head in shame.] Ferret 19:12, 26 May 2007 (EDT)

categorizing articles

Hi! :)

Thanks for adding a new article. Please, though, categorize your articles when you create them; while there are those of us who will go through and clean-up the uncategorized articles, you know your subject better than we do.

For a list of categories, go here: Special:Categories. To add a category to your article, type two open brackets, then "category:" followed by the category you want. Just add two closed brackets and you're done! You can add as many categories as you feel are appropriate. Thanks! Aziraphale 12:27, 6 August 2007 (EDT)

Apologies for my laziness. I thought I'd leave something for the categorisor in residence to do :) Seriously though I'll try harder although I will resist adding a category for the sake of it when none of the existing ones naturally fits. Ferret 06:05, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
Meh, no reason to apologize. :) I'm more of a string around your finger than a cudgel around your head. As for non-existent categories, if you feel the need for one, make sure you go to User:TK/SandboxCat and make a suggestion; that's where the high muckity-muck sysop types (unlike myself *grin*) are deciding on new categories. Aziraphale 12:20, 7 August 2007 (EDT) <-knows many knots...
And give the syspos something else to argue over? Anyway, what's your all time favourite knot? Ferret 17:07, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
  • There are no arguments, Ferret, as I am the appointed "decider", per Andy. Better to know the direction we are going in than make more work for the rest of us with a category given that isn't right, eh? For items that do not fit into existing categories, according to Mr. Wiki, Ed Poor, they do not need a category created. And Aziraphale is really running this show, so don't be fooled by his deceit! :p --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 18:36, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
    • Hi TK. This arrangment sounds good. If I think there is a genuinely useful cat that needs creating I will let the two of you know - how about one for Knots? Now I need to lie down after coming up against REAL deceit elsewhere on this site. Ferret 18:57, 7 August 2007 (EDT)

Hello, oh sleek and furry one! :-)

Did you understand what I did here? --Ed Poor Talk 20:14, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

Ah yes! I had been wondering how to do that. Fantastic, thanks Ed. Ferret 00:57, 19 August 2007 (EDT)

Oh are a devil! --şŷŝôρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 07:58, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

Spelling Catch...

Okay, you get an "A". :D --şyŝoρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 03:58, 30 October 2007 (EDT)

Was that the Beckham one? Heh heh. How's it going mate? Was is it, 12.15 for you? You must have something better to do than watching my ridiculously minor edits. -- Ferret Nice old chat 04:16, 30 October 2007 (EDT)

Warning of blocking

I saw your edits to liberal logic and, unless you have a good explanation or apology, your account is likely to be blocked.--Aschlafly 16:04, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Erm, I'm now extremely confused. I thought all of the arguments I inserted were good examples of situations where liberals have argued one thing on this very site, but their logic was found to be wanting. If that is not the case, then I apologise. I'm a little disappointed at the threat of being blocked, I have to say. -- Ferret Nice old chat 16:11, 16 February 2008 (EST)
OK, I'll accept your explanation/apology. The quality/sincerity of your posting that entry was suspect. But let's move on.--Aschlafly 16:17, 16 February 2008 (EST)
I'm still confused. I'll try making them more general, maybe that's what you mean. -- Ferret Nice old chat 16:31, 16 February 2008 (EST)

This "site"

If you don't like this "site", Ferret, as you distinctly put it, then leave. Karajou 17:22, 5 April 2008 (EDT)

I do like this site.-- Ferret Nice old chat 17:24, 5 April 2008 (EDT)

I don't think correcting a typo would have been a big deal. I wouldn't mind if you corrected mine. Bohdan 18:21, 5 April 2008 (EDT)
Fair enough. But everyone is different and I wasn't quite sure. I certainly didn't think my choice deserved an invitation to leave CP. -- Ferret Nice old chat 18:25, 5 April 2008 (EDT)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with politely pointing out a spelling error as Ferret did. Sorry, Karajou, but you're out of order with this one. Philip J. Rayment 19:31, 5 April 2008 (EDT)

I see where I went wrong and I stand corrected. With regrets and apologies. Karajou 21:52, 5 April 2008 (EDT)
Thank you Philip, thank you Karajou. Have a good day both of you. -- Ferret Nice old chat 23:44, 5 April 2008 (EDT)

The same good luck. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 19:11, 5 April 2008 (EDT)
I agree! I could have ended up in Melbourne, like Philip! ;-) -- Ferret Nice old chat 19:16, 5 April 2008 (EDT)

Election Odds

How do you calculate the probabilities? Corry 14:21, 9 October 2008 (EDT)

If McCain's betting odds are bM and Obama's are bO then the bookmaker is willing to pay out bM/bO times as much if McCain wins than if Obama wins. So the bookmaker's view is that McCain's probability of winning is bO/bM times Obama's probability.
If the probability of Obama winning is pO, then the probability of McCain winning is bO/bM * pO. Ignoring the possibility of neither of them winning you have
pO + bO/bM * pO = 1
ie pO = bM/(bO+bM)
and pM = 1- pO = bO/(bO+bM)
