Southern Europe

How would you class countries such as those in the Balkans ? I'm assuming you would class them as being in southern europe. Dvergne 23:07, 6 January 2013 (EST) Well, they are certainly in southern Europe. Using the term we avoid both Western Europe and Eastern Europe terms that are a source of a major controversy in Europe both because they refer to the Cold War and secondly because they are completely incorrect geographically. If it is necessary to be specific, then the Balkans is preferred because it reflects better the identity of the people living there. The map of the Balkans is fluid with Central Europe. Countries like Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia can be considered as Central European, when a generalisation is required, while we should try to associate Romania more with Central Europe.
